SubOkavango 01
The Okavango Delta in Botswana is the world’s largest inland delta, and one of the only rivers in the world that flows into a desert. Created over millions of years through the channelling of river water through dune movement and tectonic plate activity, it provides an oasis for a huge variety of African wildlife, who are drawn to its abundance of water in the driest times of the Botswana winter. SubOkavango 01, taken by Roger Horrocks in 2008, is the first in a series of underwater photography studies of the Okavango Delta. Given that this underwater landscape is largely unexplored, these images evoke the innocent spirit of the first landscape photographics, whose goal was to document natural spaces with an appreciation of their aesthetic quality.
